One of the most vanilla films you’re likely to see. A pretty insulting lack of true background and historical context surrounding one of the most traumatic times in the City’s history.
Maybe I should have read up on this film being semi-biographical before watching, but the fact Branagh decided to make this film in this way makes it even worse, a film that only focuses on him and not once includes any dialogue from Catholics perspectives.
The Troubles used as a uninformative backdrop for a family soap opera.
