Scott Cooper expertly channels the energy of Edgar Allen Poe’s classic horror thrillers. A stellar performance by Christian Bale captures the unreliable narrator trope introduced by EAP in The Tell Tale Heart.

Rocky Balboa travels to Moscow in a classic good vs evil Cold War battle. If only this movie succeeded in making a compelling and realistic boxing movie as much as Rocky Balboa did in bringing about Glasnost and the eventual end of the Soviet Union.

After watching this movie directly after the first two, I thought I’d be tired of the cheesy training montages and freeze-frame pictures at the end of the championship matches. However, Mr. T’s Clubber Lang is one of the most compelling one-dimensional villains I’ve ever seen. My eyes were glued to the screen for the entire final act of the movie as Rocky trains with his former rival in hopes of knocking out Mr. T and queuing that triumphant end of a Rocky movie music.

A star for each of the raw eggs Sylvester Stallone eats, definitely deserved his dog back for this performance.
