    It turns out watching this in 50 minute stints in Year 8 RE wasn’t the best way to experience this film. The best way is when you’re sick, curled up on the sofa, unable to tell how much of the blown out light is coming from the film and how much is just the aura from your migraine.

    There's the core of a great movie here, but I really felt like it needed to be longer in order to land properly. The characters needed more space to develop, and in the more sombre moments, the mood needed more time to settle. The dialogue is very tight and Kieran Culkin's performance has rightly been singled out (I think Will Sharpe was also excellent) but in order to move me as much as a film like this should, it just needed more time. I really wanted to like it more than I did.

    Oh, my heavy little heart.

    I went with some friends to see this at the Rio, who were hosting an event celebrating Lynch’s life. The place was decorated in a Twin Peaks-inspired style, with zig-zag floor tape, red curtains and a homemade The Arm in the lobby.
