A little bit First Blood, a little bit Deliverance, and all Walter Hill.
Doesn’t feel deeply researched, but the movie makes up for it with a suspenseful story and solid performances, especially from Fred Ward, Powers Boothe, and Keith Carradine. The action and paranoia kept me thoroughly invested.
Way better than the first, but suffocates under the whole Smile conceit. It would’ve been a much better horror movie as a standalone demon possession story. Naomi Scott was great, and it had solid “going crazy” moments with plenty of squelchy gore, and that’s never a disservice.
A gritty, Jim Thompson-esque crime film in the vein of pulpy noirs like Red Rock West, Bound, and A Simple Plan. The Joe Dirt flair could’ve been toned down a little. I liked this movie!
Started off strong, with some great thought provoking ideas, and I loved Pattinson channeling Mr. Pink. But about halfway through, it got a little goofy and satirical, and that’s kinda where it lost me. It all kinda dragged. But, Pattinson carried it over the finish line. Al in all didn’t meet the high expectations Bong Joon set for himself.
