  Absolutely insane that this was Lynch's first feature and he only had 100k to make it. Incredible use of the space for the majority of the film, getting so familiar with it allowed him to absolutely knock it out of the park with the lighting, the number of shots that are outright immaculate is astonishing.

  Also think it gets pigeonholed too much into the "fear of fatherhood" category there's so much more here about incomprehension of others, hatred of the self/creation in a broader context, no tomorrow, and so many other flavors of despondence in this movie.

  Irontail did absolutely nothing wrong. God forbid an official takes office in accordance with the constitution, severs ties with the country/people taking advantage of his community's work, and generally try to protect the order of his nation.

  Then again, the lens mechanism through which the movie is seen implies that perhaps this is instead meant to be the propaganda/justification used for Peter's coup. This would also explain the overblown significance of the USA imagery, drawing parallels to nationalism in our own lives.
