I feel even as an adult, I will never truly understand the deepest meaning of this film. Yes it’s about salvation amongst folk who deserve it, despite their morally unjust past actions, but there’s a part of me that feels there is something deeper so. Something that I feel i will only learn in my lifetime. There’s a reason this is the highest rated film on IMDb. This film will make you feel for the characters like you’re right there…

i went into this film from watching just ‘The Witch’ by Eggers. but wow, this film is fucking good. really good score, very well written story, and executed well by all actors. the film looks beautiful, and i think it should be celebrated as Eggers’ best work. i thought i wouldn’t like this film, but it’s one of my favourites. some real good filmmaking going on here, and i hope to see more ye olde dark fairytale films like this being made. brilliant brilliant brilliant!

A film that watches four unfortunate souls descend deeper into their own addictions. The last 15 minutes of this film was some of the most gripping, hideous storytelling I have witnessed. Unfortunately, some questionable choices in editing (which some may argue make the film more styled) knock the film just under 5 stars. A must watch if you are into films that portray a tragedy (especially ones that delve into illicit substance abuse.)
