I absolutely love this movie. It is unrelentingly dark, without a trace of humor, but (and?) has one of the most unexpected twists in movie history.
Minus half star because I wished Villeneuve spent more time on how “the lady who sings” got to work as a tutor for her assassination target. That progression felt rushed. Otherwise a flawless movie.

This movie and Parasite are pretty much tied for best Bong Joon Ho movie for me. I can’t keep my eyes off of it and can’t stop thinking about the fact that this is based on a real life case that [spoiler alert] was only solved in 2019. It reminded me so much of Zodiac in the way it is grounded in reality but also Se7en in the way that the case completely shatters all the detectives that worked on it.
This movie will drift into your dreams. It will build a home in your subconscious. It will make you question whether your past is the same past that you once had. And how much of your memories are products of dreams. It’ll make you wonder how strange it is to be anything at all.
Maybe I shouldn’t have watched all the Oscar shorts at the same time. Depression inducing.
