Gorgeous, beautiful, charming, fun
What I really appreciated on this rewatch is how all the different storylines are woven together. Maria, the abbey, the children's relationship with Maria, music, the Captain, the Baroness, and the oncoming takeover by the Nazis are all structured around each other so perfectly that the finale perfectly pays off on all of them without ever feeling bloated or forced.

In my campaign of watching all the classic films I've missed, this is the first time in 55 movies that I cannot understand why the movie is considered a classic. Even for other movies that I've disliked like Solaris or Band of Outsiders, I can still see their merit or why others liked them or why they were important or revolutionary, but for this I've got nothing.
