3.5hrs for a film, provided more time to sit within the world of that film for t longer, which could feel like a drag. In moments some scenes did feel slow but you soak in more of the world of the film at this pace, you maybe gain more layers and meaning as things unfold at a different pace. I thought it worked for this film, and I appreciated the way different themes were woven together.
Very interesting visuals and unexpectedly experimental for a feature film but full of distortions and surreal scenes like Bacons paintings. With great performances from young Daniel Craig and British actors like Tilda Swinton.
A beautiful anthology film - tying three stories together that for me, effectively explore human nature, some ways of how we view our identities, roles we play in life, and our relationship to our bodies. The themes of the philosophy of the ship of Theseus are woven in through setting up these really interesting situations in the writing. I thought each part has its own flavour and pace which keeps the film engaging and it’s just beautifully shot with its naturalistic and free style.
Some of the characters in this film reminded me of 80s style of twin peaks, mixed with some film
Noir lighting. It was interesting visually for the colour palettes, the styling but sometimes the lighting style I find a little distracting. But perhaps this feeling of something artifice and set up is what is interesting about this film, as it highlights a suspended reality almost in contrast to very normal everyday people dealing with social issues, drinking problems and relationships in their day to day life.
