  Is this a “good” movie? I mean no, not really, but I was grinning the entire 3rd act because the action was such goofy fun fan-service, same as the Mecha-Godzilla fight in the last movie. Sometimes that’s all you need.

  The middle third is also basically the same genre as the modern Planet of the Apes movies where it’s mostly non-verbal apes carrying the emotional core of the movie, and it actually works, Kong and his little friend are better characters than any human in the Monsterverse and centering the film on them is a great decision that makes for the most engaging narrative so far.

  Always the best action movie of whatever year they come out. Tom Cruise may be an insane person but he sure knows how to make a movie
