Looking forward to the new 4K Kino Lorber release. I can’t believe they had the original negative tp scan. It made it through both the Hitler AND Trump administrations. A miracle.

I’m still chewing on this. The 90th anniversary restoration is gorgeous. Joan Crawford is luminous, true magnetic star power. Walter Huston is stiff in a way that is perfect for the role. The owner of the inn wanders around reading Nitsche. Or maybe that was the sardonic doctor….i need to watch this again, I’ll report back.

I watch this multiple times a week. I don’t have screen burn yet. The movie is way too long, and way too short, all at the same time. Just like life.

A clear eyed look at a foggy situation, with no heroes, except for maybe the Cheadle. It’s like a high minded episode of Law & Order, only there’s no hope, and, thankfully, no moral high ground. And any movie that has Topher Grace, Benjamin Bratt, and Dennis Quaid playing complete slime balls is going to firmly get put into my W column. As the late Ed Hutton would say: “I liked it. It was depressing.”
