For me this film captures the human experience in a beautiful and raw way. This isn’t about the extraordinary but a man who has found contentment and joy in his work and his hobbies. Despite this, he frequently encounters judgement or mistreatment from strangers and his own sister. They attempt to place their own insecurities on him. He is not completely unaffected by this. Behind the stunning scenery and the simple joy of Hirayama, despair creeps out.
