Only ten minutes in but gonna knock this review out.
Hmmm this one was interesting. I thought the brilliance of Adrien Brody and thoughtful film making masked an otherwise unspectacular screenplay.
What a performance by Brody. The way he embodied and projected the pain of his character, a man who has survived the Holocaust, lost his family, and now battles addiction as a career in America takes off, was so impressive to me. You could see the pain in his eyes, you could hear it in his voice, and you could sense it in his movements. Toth is a deeply troubled man, and Brody expertly captures that in every way possible.
One of the most visually impressive films I’ve ever seen - very glad I caught this one on the big screen. Eggers’ shotmaking is so good, bringing his characters in contrast to dramatic landscapes that show how small and helpless they are to a monster they are slowly beginning to understand. The visual beauty we see on the screen is a wonderful contrast to the death and despair Nosferatu brings upon this world. There is no detail missed.
Sad to say I did NOT catch Noserfatu’s swinging dong at the end. The most visually appealing scene of the movie was lost on me. I am a fraud.
After not finishing the show on my first go around, I’m happy I came back around and finished this time. Such an immersive deception of life in Rome around the end of the Republic, following the lives of the Caesars down to the common plebs on whose backs the city runs.
HBO history miniseries for the win!
