  i feel wholly inadequate to comment on this film's beautiful blocking, tonal shifts, absurdist comedy, and the incredibly interesting skewing of reality for film when the medium is itself so focused on the act of viewing. so:

  you'd think this would be hydrogen bomb (big lizard from the deep) vs coughing baby (humans) but it's more like unstoppable force (Some Guy with commitment issues) vs immovable object (big lizard from the deep) and i think that's beautiful

  ethan hawke telling the audience that there is no racism bc "genes is the only thing that matters" in a film with 98.8% white characters who look so similar that the police weren't able to find a suspect even with a photo is one of the most unintentionally hilarious thing i've witnessed in 90s sci-fi
