The way it was able to incorporate its various influences (50s and 60s French and American musicals [especially An American in Paris, Singin’ in the Rain, and The Umbrellas of Cherbourg], The Truman Show, and the films of Powell and Pressburger to name a few I noticed), balance laugh-out-loud comedy, existential dread, timely commentary on the way women and men are hamstrung by their allotted societal roles, and earnest sentimentality, all while being rooted in the impact…

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings 2021
The first half is definitely better than the second but it was such a treat to see Tony Leung and Michelle Yeoh. Leung was phenomenal in his first English language role. Still one of the best actors in the world, dominating each scene with the most subtle glance or raise of an eyebrow.
