Anora 2024
Very tough to rate. The buildup is glorious, with memorable and original characters, setting and tone. As the plot progresses, it devolves into a thrilling but chaotic rollercoaster ride, leaving little room for breath. The character development in the final two-thirds of the film becomes disappointingly flat, even the amazing cast is unable to save it.
Unlike in The Florida Project, Sean Baker’s sensitivity and depth in storytelling and character development has ben discarded for Scorsese style punches and excess lenght.
Anora feels like a sugar daddy version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.
