Deathsport 1978
Riffs heavily on Star Wars with a pyjama sporting David Carradine wielding the Force and a plastic sword facing off against a maskless Darth Vader knock-off in the form of Richard Lynch. It’s dumb yet fun and there are shades of Mad Max, The Running Man and Conan, despite this pre-dating all of them. Carradine and Lynch, with the help of the lovely Claudia Jennings elevate the material and make the most of the evident budget constraints. Like sand in the wind, it keeps moving…
