The Whale 2022
Emotionally exploitative and at times melodramatic and overly sentimental. But we don't tell enough tragic stories, and Aronofsky seemingly singlehandedly fills that void. Fraser's performance is strikingly raw and nothing short of empathetic. Chau provides an equally compelling supporting performance. The other actors do a good enough job but don't stick out for their excellence. It is a masterwork of a psychological character study. Macabre, depressing, claustrophobic, and maybe a little Kafkaesque. In short, I loved it.

Lily Rose-Depp gives a powerhouse physical performance. Hoult holds his own. Somewhere beneath that bushy dick tickler, flat ass, and ear sore of an accent, I'm sure there is an actor giving a performance. Willem Dafoe is good but so goddamn misused and underutilized. And Taylor-Johnson chews the everloving fuck out of the scenery. That encapsulates the acting for the most part.
