A return to form and a satisfying bookend to the Bridget Jones franchise. This is as you would expect silly, sweary and ridiculous in all the funny ways it always has been. We see that early on especially with the young love interest Roxstar - the dog rescuing pond swim scene was both painfully OTT and deliciously funny. But later on in the story there are actually some really rather sweet and tender moments surrounding the absence of a former…

Novocaine 2025
Another Monday Mystery Movie and another great film starring Jack Quaid!
Last months MMM was Companion, basically the perfect film to watch when you go in blind to the cinema. It was a clever, funny, surprising, sci-fi crime caper thriller. Novocaine is much less complicated but was a lot of fun too. Quaid plays a man named Nathan with a condition that in short makes it impossible for him to feel pain. This turns out to be really helpful when…

Conclave 2024
A fascinating and taut thriller set inside the Vatican after the Pope dies and a successor must be found from the 108 cardinals sequestered inside.
At the center of all things is the Dean of the Conclave (Fiennes) and his close friend Aldo (Tucci) who try to keep order and maintain civility in what sadly amounts to a political tussle for power and control.
Front runners come and go as new information is unearthed and as tensions and suspicions rise…

The Devil Wears Prada 2006
Man that was underwhelming. My only connection to this was from The Office when Michael Scott (Steve Carell) impersonates Meryl Streep before realizing she is not the hero with hilarious affect.
Look, there is fun to be had in this fashion obsessed comedy but it’s not nearly as funny as Zoolander which leans in to the silliness of fashion more successfully in my opinion.
The tone created by the stress of the boss from hell needed to be broken by…

How the Grinch Stole Christmas 2000
Frantic, headache inducing and weird and not in a good way. This 2000 version of the Dr Seuss tale was not an enjoyable watch. I found the prosthetics, reworked story and overall visual look of the film to be really unpleasant. It’s a cross between Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands and Joel Schumacher’s Batman and Robin with a soft lens, yuck!
Yes Jim Carrey, is at times a perfect fit for the Grinch but he is often way too much. This film is, in short, over the top in every department and I will be happy never to see it again.

Lisa Frankenstein 2024
I am not sure how well I will do at reviewing Lisa Frankenstein as it is properly bonkers and unlike anything I have ever seen before. For one it’s super weird and has a gonzo acetic that will polarize some viewers but it’s also strangely sweet and funny.
Lisa Swallows (not joking) is a high school senior who has transferred schools after her mother was brutally killed, and her father remarried and relocated to be with his new wife and…
