This is a tough one. There are some good moments and nice nods to the previous films in the series, but although it was fun it’s lacking in execution.
The cgi is overused again in place of practical effects and actual stuntmen/stuntwomen. Indy jumping train cars looks like something out of a Spider-Man film, which is no wonder as Disney owns all these properties now. The Temple of Doom bug tunnel call back just looked atrocious
The pacing in general…
Wow, just wow!…

Watchable standard b-movie adventure fare, but far from the best of Jacques Tourneur’s directing career
I first saw this at the cinema when it came out, then on tv, vhs, dvd and blu-ray. Rewatching this again for the umpteenth time it never ceases to amaze.
A truly brilliant piece of filmmaking. The seamless meld of live action and animation, the blend of noir and cartoon comedy, the amazing performances… It’s a feat that hasn’t been replicated since and, sadly, probably never will.
