Scorsese’s best late-era film, and it’s not even remotely close for me. If I’m being real, fighting for my favourite Scorsese film period.
Better with every rewatch, building, building and building to an otherworldly, chill-inducing final act featuring one of the most powerful moments in film history.

Sweeping, all-caps, problematic, three-and-a-half-hour, cheesy, american cinema, and I ate up every second of it.
The blistering score, expansive cinematography, dramatic time jumps, and possessed James Dean/Liz Taylor performances will rip you out of your own body. Rock Hudson is just Rock Hudson.
An achievement in showing the passage of time on screen, and despite being a clear product of it’s era, Stevens could’ve made an 8-hour cut, and I’d (somewhat) defend it with my life.
