Another solid entry in one of my favorite horror franchises. It's probably not the best in the series (that title belongs to the first one or 94), and doesn't have a super standout segment like Safe Haven from V/H/S 2, but I think this one is very consistently enjoyable. Huh...I feel like this movie is calling me out for wanting to watch it. I was honestly just expecting a violent, disturbing home invasion movie, and in some ways, that's what this was. But I wasn't expecting how this movie would be presented. Essentially no soundtrack throughout the whole movie. Gratuitous, unbroken shots of nothing happening for minutes at a time. This really feels like a fever dream, and is a ride of a movie. It starts totally depraved, and basically doesn't let up for the entire runtime. And the freakish red lighting just adds to that surreal feeling, especially with the unhinged performances the whole way through. This almost feels like a spiritual successor to TCM, with how grimy and dirty the whole thing feels. It really nails the mucky swamp atmosphere, and I'm shocked I didn't watch this sooner.
Honestly, this movie's better than it has any right to be. Pamela Springsteen is awesome as Angela, and the kills are pretty creative even if they do seem a bit censored. It's definitely missing a lot of the charm of the first one, but hey, I couldn't tell you many other movies that have that charm.
