SO close to being a perfect movie - I loved the horror, loved the suspense, loved the awkwardness, and was surprised by how much I loved Nicolas Cage’s Longlegs. My only critiques were the monologue the mother had at the end, the stereotypical satan silhouette, and the odd middle ground the movie toed between subtle and direct. I read a review that said “I wish the movie was less or more,” and I agree with that. If it had either…
Improved on the 2013 film in every way - more compelling characters, more visceral kills, beautiful cinematography, and a scarier main villain. As a queer person who lives for badass or c*nty villains, I also loved how iconic the mother (no pun intended) character was. Alyssa Sutherland DEMOLISHED this role, and I had a fantastic time with her.
A pretty solid horror film! The first 75% or so are pretty standard - nothing innovative to write home about, but a good choice if you’re in the mood for some gory horror! The movie largely feels like a typical 2013 horror flick until the final 25%, which was easily my favorite section of the film. Everything after it starts raining (if you know you know) felt like a campy, otherworldly callback to the originals, and I quite preferred that approach.
