Hilarious, with biting satire I loved this film through and through. The skit format kept the pacing steady throughout the film. The emphasis at the climax of the connection between anti-black stereotypes in film and minstrel acting was especially well executed: “can you stick your butt out and bulge your eyes a little more? You know how they do…” I know I’ll be rewatching this film!
“It’s not a tragedy when it happens every week”
This is the first line that struck me from the from this film. I came for the campy horror and queer representation, and stayed for the commentary on cyclical violence and poverty. While not perfect, the film makes sure you have something to like about each member of the protagonist group, and then proceeds to put them through hell. The kicker is that it’s never viewed as a tragedy. Shadyside residents…
