Amazing! Films on the end of feudal Japan are very captivating, in this case, it is a portrayal of the loss of honor codes in samurai, and how these same honor codes where unethical and barbaric when it came to the wellbeing of a community.

It definitely leaves you thinking, especially since Gondo grew up poor and the person that kidnaps the boy is poor. I think the message is about how different sciioeconomic statuses create hate. It is an anticapitalist movie, but it is interesting because at the same time, of it weren't for the police, they wouldn't have recovered the money!

The main theme of the movie is greed, all characters have some sort of greediness that leads them to a sorrowful point in the movie. Kurosawa's storytelling and cinematography really shines, especially on the scenes with wind, fight scenes, and an escape scene that really keeps the tension going.
