  Considering I know more about the Von Erich story than 90% of people who will see this, I may be unfairly biased.

  The Holdovers 2023

  Emotional, funny, and heartbreaking, Payne weaves together a story of loss, disappointment, and self-discovery on the back of a great Giamatti performance. Yeah, Paul does basically just reprise his role from Sideways, but who plays a better pretentious academic curmudgeon than him? 

  I don’t know that it will become a new Christmas classic in my house, mainly because while the film’s message is ultimately hopeful, it really drags you through some painful valleys before hitting its uplifting conclusion.
