It will often time be the case that I put off watching "classic" movies assuming they will be boring or won't really hold up. Perhaps there's some original thing the lauded movie did that makes it very influential but not particularly of note after watching a copy of a copy of it in so many other movies.

Unsurprisingly it sounds like this movie innovated in how to use sound and, instead of laying it on thick as many contemporray movies…

I apprecaited this movie more having seen Blue Velvet recently. I think I was much more prepared for the weirdness and could more easily just enjoy the inimitable Lynchean tropes.

I'm not really sure what the canonical reading is supposed to be. Seemed like certain themes were right there but there were lots of open questions.

For me the movie left me with the feeling of the rabbit-duck illusion where at times it felt profound and mysterious and other times…
