    Kind of unbelievable we had to wait 20 years for an spiritual successor to the vastly underrated “Josie & The Pussycats” but here it is and, aside from some really delineated and unnecessary gender politics speeches, this is a very worthy owner of that badge.

    Never rises above it’s amusing set up to deliver a truly funny experience. Or many laughs, for that matter. Which is a shame, especially with a cast this talented and likeable. In fact, Robertson and Byers are arguably due for breakthrough roles, especially after being amongst the best things in Dear White People… and Harlem.

    The twist also feels deadly serious, which leaves a sour taste that contrasts with the jovial tone it has adopted up to that point. 

    Diverting enough but a missed opportunity.
