I watched this movie for the first time a long time ago and placed it among my favorite movies. When I was about to rewatch it for the second time this week, I wondered if it’d still leave such an impression on me again. It did. Although long and slow-paced, this is Scorsese at his finest. Nothing in this movie feels unnecessary. A study on the meaning of faith, human will, love and self-preservation that even a non-believer like myself…

A journey in search of one’s origins and identity, a reflection on what could have happened if history had unfolded differently, creates the perfect context for dealing with very real struggles with loss: of loved ones, of direction in life, of sense of self-worth. A movie that’s very relatable to every Jew in the world, and to me in particular, since my family comes from that same region in Poland.

(Benji’s character is insufferable, even as you get to know him better).

Great fantasy film in true Peter Jackson style, with an interesting story that expands the movie franchise’s lore telling Rohan’s past. Bold and refreshing decision to make it an anime (although I think it doesn’t have outstanding animation). Way better than Amazon’s show. Great watch.

I was already familiar with the story despite not having read the book (my bad), but this felt new and exciting. The quintessential tale of vengeance and redemption retold with great performances, production design, costumes and music. Almost three hours that passed exceptionally fast and left you wanting to spend more time in the 19th Century France of Dantès, which to me is the sign of a great movie. I don’t know it this is the best adaptation of the book but it sure is a good one.
