Sundance #1
Wow. A Real Pain knows exactly what it wants to be and it delivers. I love what’s being explored here about pain, relationships, and the internal struggles ordinary people experience daily that go unnoticed. The performances are great. The script is smart, funny, and thoughtful. Great way to start my first experience at Sundance.
What’s terrifying about this movie is how real the characters feel, and how while watching them you realize how people with good intentions can get caught in the middle of things that can lead to terrible outcomes. This one felt haunting, and a little too real.
Also as much as I’ve loved so many performances this year, Leo, De Niro and Gladstone give the best performances of the year so far in their respective Oscar categories.
