This is a my guilty pleasure movie for sure. It’s a comfort watch and is really enjoyable. Julia Roberts is so charming! However, from a modern lens it has some problematic misogynistic messages, which at some points made me cringe. But apart from that, this is a favourite of mine.
Rewatched this movie and HOLY COW reminded me how much I love this film. I have not seen the original movie nor read the book, so I can’t compare it to either. However, on its own, I think the film is fantastic. The casting is perfection (particularly Saorise Ronan as Jo). I love the costumes and am not surprised the costume designer won an oscar. This film made me laugh and cry! 5 stars for me!
This movie is definitely a good, but wasn’t my favourite personally. The music was fun (and timothee had a v nice voice). Hugh Grant as the oompa loompa was sooo funny. One thing I can’t get over is they named a character Noodle. NOODLE!
It also felt quite detached from the other charlie and the chocolate factory movies, like a completely different world. I think I would’ve preferred if they were a bit more linked.
I really enjoyed this film. Overall it’s very simple in its storytelling, but effective. Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush acted incredibly, separately but especially as a duo. Their friendship was very believeable. While this film might not the most life changing or deeply moving, it’s a very easy watch full of endearing and heartfelt moments aswell as struggles.
