  Orson Welles pulls double duty as both the director and lead actor in Citizen Kane, and he absolutely nails it. The film follows Charles Foster Kane, a super-successful business mogul whose life slowly falls apart despite all his wealth and power. One of my favorite films of all time

  Requiem for a Dream 2000

  Darren Aronofsky has a way of showing how addiction creeps into every part of life. Whether it’s Javier Bardem’s obsession with adoration in Mother! or Brendan Fraser’s struggle with food in The Whale, his characters always seem trapped in cycles that eventually ruin them. I love the message, but at this point, it feels like he’s using the same tricks to get it across.
