I’ll admit that I was mostly lost during the early stages of this film, trying to piece together everything going on and take note of what was and was not important as George spoke rather nonchalantly about everything. Yet I knew this was because the film did not want to be dumbed down and I learned to appreciate Soderbeugh’s respect for the audience.
I mention all this because the payoff is worth it, Soderbeugh’s inner work romances and work-life drama…
The widow seems to get lost in this film, almost disappears and the promise of the young man and their connection falls short.
It more or less turns into a cool noir film that does raise tension than the sentimental piece it was charted out to be.
Yet despite it becoming a different movie it did warrant its attention and deliver some killer moments.
