Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse 2023
Best animated film of the year and it’s not even close. Not only is the animation God-tier and the music grammy-worthy, but the story is compelling and highlights the Spider-Man universe’s greatest strength: family. What would we give to save our family? You can tell the directors and producers knew Spider-man well and knew how to highlight and reimagine it’s best features. Phenomenal film.

The Boy and the Heron 2023
Is it Miyazaki’s best film? No. Is it really good? Absolutely. The animation. The music. The memborable characters. It has all the makings of a great Ghibli film, and overtime I’ll love it even more. My favorite aspect is that it captured the experience of being a young boy perfectly. Creating a bow out of bamboo and fighting the Heron is exactly what I’d do as a kid. The relationship between Mahito and Natsuko needed more work. It felt forced. And truth be told, Kiriko was the best character. Overall, wonderful film.
