The New World 2005
this reeks of his style in the best way possible. Malick’s constrained and exacting directing works fantastically with the sprawling setting of this new world. He contrasts the beauty of the new world with the archaic western old world. There is so much here in assimilation, alterity, and humanity that is framed on screen in colonization but works to understand how we form ourselves, how we identify ourselves in a new world. Not much else I can say. It’s gorgeous.
