  Phew, been a minute since I updated Letterboxd, amirite haha?

  Anyways, this was a great film! I love the ambiguity inherent to having unreliable narrators and enjoyed seeing what aspects changed and what stayed the same and what did or did not make sense throughout the film. Toshiro Mifune as Tajoumaru and Machiko Kyo as Takehiro Kanazawa (the samurai's wife) stole the show for me. Also the lighting and cinematography were top notch throughout.

  This was my first Kurosawa film and won't be the last.

  The Killer 1989

  Ngl this is one of the best action movies I've ever seen: Ah Jong and Li Ying's character arcs dovetail perfectly into each other, facilitating a nuanced, three-dimensional relationship between the two men; Ah Jong in particular is a very likable and compassionate man who, despite racking up a kill count in the dozens (if not higher) by the end, regrets the violence his job requires and truly desires an escape.   Maybe I'm just easy to please but it's hard to think of movies that are just as much fun of a ride for me as the first Knives Out film, so I was eager to see this one. Given this is a standalone sequel that's kinda a remix of the first film, I loved this movie so much I might watch it again tomorrow, which is something I usually don't do with movies, even ones I adore, but is something I did with Knives Out 1. Go see it, pretty please.
