Shanghainese badass women, and men “who has started learning about feminism”. The sarcasm is very on point, and I like the subtle political hints on censorship and journalism in China. All in all, pretty accurate reflection of life in Shanghai these days, from the people, the streets to the ideology.
One thing I wonder, is why the lighting in some scenes looks like obvious film lighting, rather than the sunlight or lamp light they are supposed to mimic?
I don’t find this relationship romantic at all. The girl is borderline abusive to her boyfriend, and really doesn’t have her shit together. How is it redeeming to find out at the end that the girl again gives up on fighting for integrating back to society and the guy kept being with her because the on night they met she said something he relates to. And it really doesn’t look good the way depression is portrayed in the film, and how it is used by multiple characters as an excuse for the girl’s misbehavior.
