  Didn’t even almost need to be 2 hours and 20 minutes. Lots of repetition, not that much to say, but a bold execution and brilliant effects. The type of movie that’s great to see exactly once, but which doesn’t offer much of substance (hey that’s the name of the movie) by the end.

  Absolutely misses what makes Godzilla work, telling a found family narrative (which does have its moments) in which Godzilla could have been replaced with any big monster. The acting is hammy and one dimensional, the effects are not great (my favorite part is Godzilla floating at the waist in the ocean like a Pokémon, just no thought given to how he would actually inhabit the scene) but the worst part is the absolutely rotten choice to tell a story about…
