Carried by its emphatic and emotional performances, incredibly gothic set design, and themes of infatuation and sexual desire, Nosferatu is a remake that separates itself from the original in the best way. Compared to the first film’s focus on shadowy visuals and a reliance on what you can’t see, the new film shifts the focus onto Ellen’s performance (played by the incredibly talented Lily-Rose Depp) while fully leaning into nightmarish and disgusting visuals. Robert Eggers is on an absolute winning streak already with just his first 4 movies.

Something that really deserves to just be seen. An almost unreal and eerie take on the horror genre, this is horror at it’s best. Truly disturbing and beautifully shot, Robert Eggers continues to show his prowess in filmmaking. Willem Dafoe gives a truly career defining performance, with him absolutely chewing up the scenery and completely transforming himself into an entirely different person.
