This is like if you had a bowl of cereal, and as you began to eat it, pieces of poop appeared. And as you eat/watch more and more, the poop begins to overtake the cereal. And by the end, there is no cereal, just a pile of shit. But the pile of shit is aware that it’s shit, and fully embraces it with a name tag that says, “I, am shit”

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 2004
I think this film is so close to being good. The camerawork is incredible and it is correct in that almost everyone needs quite a jarring revelation/moment to realize that it’s okay to enjoy things for whatever duration you experience them. I have never thought about the point this movie makes about the camaraderie that comes from simply being young. Sad, but I think the point of never having friends like that again is extendable to having friends at any age, as the things we value and time we have for others is permanently changing. I liked that this was displayed by interjecting with the older gang of boys, showing a entirely different but still bonded group dynamic
