Thoroughly captures the awkward period between youth and adulthood that is marked more by address changes than actual accomplishments.
The success of this year's indie darling hinges entirely upon the breakout performance from Gerwig. You love her completely, even as you want to strangle her for being so clueless. Things sag a bit in the middle due to Frances's lack of direction, but Gerwig's energy pulls you along.
We all know people like Frances (some of us know those people extremely well... wink, wink) , and the unflinchingly honest portrayal is both poignant and exhilarating. This thoughtful little gem is the perfect change-of-pace for summer blockbusters.
