The Substance 2024
Extremely hard to watch for two reasons. On one hand the message of the film was drilled into our heads in the first 20 minutes and it spends the rest of the movie stripping the screw and emphasizing the same point despite the many avenues it could’ve gone down with pretty privilege, misogyny, and self image issues. But it was also hard to watch because of the extreme amount of body horror and gore which were actually kind cool. If the movie leaned more into the horror genre it would be absolutely sensational. Get the special effects guy into a horror movie he cooked.
