The Umbrellas of Cherbourg 1964
After sitting on this film for several months now, it still remains— in my opinion— Demy’s strongest and most cohesive work. This film lays the framework for modern romance cinema, and while one may find themself wondering “is this cliché,” you must realize that this film single-handedly defines our notion of “cliché” (with regards to modern romance films).
