I Saw the TV Glow 2024
This film absolutely did me in. I’m still thinking about it after thinking about it, sleeping, dreaming some kind of alternate version and waking up. It’s not a film made just for me, but the Buddy references and the longing and the 90s hit me hard and then obviously the plot destroyed me. The performances were all staggering (including FRED DURST?), the aesthetic was perfect, the Amber Benson cameo was perfect. MILD SPOIL: I suppose the only quibble was the ending which felt mean to me. But I acknowledge how much that ending was maybe the right one.

Firstly, absolutely gorgeously shot in technicolor and beautifully lit and staged in a way that makes you think “why can’t they do this anymore.” Granted that kind of craft benefits what is essentially a melodrama. But it works pretty spectacularly as a melodrama with Gene Tierney absolutely acting-the-fuck out of her role. Sure, it’s a trope but she manages to bring enough shade to it that it’s not bullshit. Love Lies Bleeding 2024
Just a great pulp exercise with extremely good performances from Stewart, O’Brian and Harris. I hope it cures some of the internet puritans of their anti-sex scene nonsense, the film uses them incredibly well to communicate the dynamic between Stewart and O’Brian’s characters. Was surprised to see the music was by Clint Mansell which was great and it was really nicely shot. Great! Watch it!
