  I would argue the act 1 turn doesn’t happen till 90 minutes through, or rather, that’s when this movie turns from pretty good to fucking exciting. A couple truly amazing reveals towards the end. Some really powerful character choices, but sadly a couple that I’m struggling to understand. The ending is quite poetic, and I’m pretty neutral on it. Maybe this movie is a mixed bag, but the good aspects are really phenomenal. I should watch more Iranian cinema.

  The act 1 premise is great, but they don’t do anything with it till the last 15 minutes. I swear there was no plot for the middle hour. 

  This movie didn’t have the guts to make a trans person the protagonist and instead relies on 2 American A-listers to act their hearts out into vastly underdeveloped characters with little to no motivation. 

  I like musicals but the dancing, singing, and music were not great. Nor do I think it worked tonally. 

  And yeah, the representation stuff and fact that it is getting so much award buzz is frankly really upsetting.
