So beautifully crafted! The coloring is sublime. Quite honestly one of the most beautiful looking films I’ve ever seen
So little substance! A weird colonial energy radiates from this film and uses unrequited romantic queer love to blanket over the overwhelming whiteness of it all. Some of the cinematography is beautiful, and Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey are wonderful, despite this truly terrible script.
I’ve never seen a movie miss its ideological mark so hard in my entire life. Every aspect of EP is bad.
The trans experience is framed in binaries. Mexican people are homogenized into gun touting, cruel cartel members. Taken together, therefore, the trans Mexican experience is rendered as one of violence rather than of beautiful possibility.
The film’s aesthetics do not help whatsoever. Why is this a musical? The singing is awful and only palatable because the dancing is somehow…
This is the best movie I’ve seen so far this year.
I think my favorite thing about this movie was its ability to create a sense of dread in macro and micro ways. The refrain of gunfire across the water
signals major historical change and implications, and the slow collapse into chaos between the friendship demonstrates the revoking of intimacy.
The whole cast is great, especially Barry Keoghan. The cinematography is stunning— multiple times throughout the movie people in my theater gasped at the sheer beauty of the water, farm lands, and cliffs.
