Maaaan ohhh maaan this would’ve been 5/5 had the film ended differently.
Despite enduring the torment, defamation, and trauma from this noxious lie, with every license and entitlement towards a dark, climatic ending, Lucas barely changed at the end. The writers shuddered away from a more thematic third act imo.

Despite finishing the film at 3AM on a work night, My Neighbor Totoro filled me with nostalgia of childhood curiosity, one that is so easily forgotten in adulthood.
There are overt parallels to Alice in Wonderland which shares themes of this fantastical curiosity, imagination, and exploration. Nah but wtf was this film 😭 the ending is so absurdly random and ambiguous that I’m convinced it’s only considered a classic because film geeks can pretentiously flaunt some explanation they read on Reddit and pretend it’s their own interpretation.
