Anora 2024
A rollercoaster beginning to end. You think that this film will be one thing in one dimension and it turns around and does three things in four dimensions. The number of stars I gave the movie steadily increased from 2.5 at the beginning to a 4++. Great writing, great play with expectations, great visuals.

Such a great film, it made me feel a lot. It plays a lot with what you thought the film was and is as you watch it. It’s easy to see it as having a simple, clear-cut concept, but I think deep down it’s a lot more complicated than it looks, much like Hirayama and his perfect life.
I think that it overstays its welcome a little bit, even for what it’s doing, but I respect the commitment and I think it pays off.
Also, Tokyo bathrooms are works of art.
