Sheesh. What a way to speed-run this story. Not a single moment in this entire film fails to move the plot forward. Makes me extra grateful for the slow little moments of elegance and gentleness in Peter Jackson’s trilogy. Animation styles were definitely a fun experiment, but I’m really here for the background paintings and different imaginings of my favorite pastures and mountains. Also, they really did my boy Samwise dirty.
