A movie whose form betrays its function. The Brutalist wants you to know it is a Movie Event. From its marketing campaign, to talk of resurrecting the dead VistaVision format to film it, to the Big Important Themes it wants to tackle, The Brutalist seems to want to impart on its viewer that it is Essential through sheer force of will.
